ARTIST TO WATCH: Classixx

Now that
summer is here, it’s the perfect time to find some
appropriate dance tunes that match your summer soiree, BBQ, or box
social. Enter Classixx, a DJ duo from L.A., who
recently dropped their sophomore album Faraway Reach just
in time for summer. Released by Innovative Leisure,Faraway Reach has a light-hearted, relaxed sound to it --
it’s not as jarring as some of the EDM/techno of today can
be. Their sound definitely has California vibes, the type of album
you would blast on your way to the beach with the top down (of your
car, though it is summer after all, and it's really hot
out!).
The DJ Duo certainly have not only a unique sound, but a unique eye. To accompany their album, they released a video for their song, “Whatever I Want” ft T-Pain, that is a shot-for-shot remake of The Smiths' video for “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before”:
It is an unusual choice for Classixx to choose a Smiths video as their inspiration, considering that The Smiths' music is a bit darker than their own. However, the video itself is a cool homage to The Smiths, and one of the more original music videos seen in quite some time.
Classixx's sound is ideal if (like me) you want a more chill dance groove. Their songs, which feature a variety of artists includingPassion Pit, Panama, andAlex Frankel, are sure to be a welcome addition to any summer playlist.
You can keep up with their music on Twitter, and you can also catch them on MixMag.net tonight at 8pm!
