All The Moments We Loved From The 2019 MTV VMAs!

The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards dropped last night (August 26), and boy was it a great show. Host Sebastian Maniscalo was definitely not afraid to really go there and cross the boundaries of political correctness.

His opening monologue mocked the idea of safe spaces, telling all the future losers of the night there will be stress balls and relaxation zones for them backstage so they can deal with their loss. Maniscalco also wanted nothing to do with the trend of handing out participation awards, telling artists, “if you don’t win tonight… next year, work harder.”

Monday night’s show featured a ton of performances from everyone’s favorite entertainers. Whether it was Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s steamy performance of their hit song "Senorita", Lil Nas X’s futuristic performance of "Old Town Road" and "Panini" which featured him as President, or Miley Cyrus’s stripped-down performance of the breakup song of the summer "Slide Away", this year’s lineup did not disappoint.

As great as the lineup was, the standout performances of the night were brought by Taylor Swift, Lizzo, and Missy Elliott.

Taylor Swift opened the show with a performance of her hit song "You Need to Calm Down". The visuals of the performance made me think I was inside of a rainbow with all the colors that were on that stage. What else did we expect from Taylor, though? I mean, can we really be surprised? She then toned it down and brought back the old Taylor to sing "Lover" while alone on stage with her guitar.

Lizzo literally brought the party to the VMAs with her super energetic performance of "Truth Hurts" and "Good as Hell". She not only sang in front of a giant inflatable butt, she took a shot of tequila on stage and preached self love as she jumped around gleefully on stage. Girl was living up there.

Missy Elliott stole the entire show and had the entire audience losing their $#!t as she busted out the hits she knew everyone wanted to hear. In a performance spanning over 7 minutes, Missy busted out "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)", "Get Ur Freak On", "Pass That Dutch", "Work It", and "Lose Control". She even brought out Alyson Stoner, the dancer in the original "Work It" music video, to join her on stage and she was still amazing.

Missy was the biggest winner of the night, having been awarded the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. It’s about damn time she was given this honor if you ask me, or literally anyone else out there. She paved the way for so many female artists and is just the so iconic and she proved it with that performance.

The other big winners of the night included Ariana Grande for Artist of the Year, Billie Eilish for Best New Artist, Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" for Song of the Year, and Taylor Swift's "You Need to Calm Down" for Video of the Year.

Other winners included Normani, the Jonas Brothers, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, Rosalia, Cardi B, and BTS.
