5 Television Shows That Broke Barriers and Took Risks Like “The OA”!
3. “Mr. Robot”
If you don’t know the name Rami Malek by now, you’ve been living under a rock. He may now be known more for his Oscar-winning portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, but his first big role (which he won an Emmy for) was Elliot Alderson in “Mr. Robot”.
The show, airing its 4th and final season this Fall on USA, was created by Sam Esmail, who most recently created the Amazon series “Homecoming”. “Mr. Robot” also stars Christian Slater, who you may know from Heathers, Portia Doubleday, and Carly Chaikin.
Elliot Alderson is an expert cybersecurity engineer and a deep hacker in his spare time, who suffers from severe social anxiety and depression. He’s just trying to get through each day what he meets a man called Mr. Robot, who recruits him to his vigilante hacker group called fsociety. They enact a plan to reset the global economy and steal all the money from big corporations, especially the main one, E Corp -- or, as Elliot likes to call it, Evil Corp.
It’s kind of hard to describe just how this show subverts expectations without spoiling anything, but let’s just say all is not as it seems. Along with that, Esmail is an amazing director and writer, and the show is visually stunning.
Trust me. Watch the first season and you’ll be sucked in.
