5 A-List Celebs Who Don’t Use Social Media -- Any Why!

Written by Jordyn McEvoy. Published: January 25 2022

The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is check my Instagram. And then my Twitter. And then I hop on over to my-- oh, you get it. We as a society are obsessed with the expansive digital worlds trapped within our phones, and social media really isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. We just hit the 3rd calendar year of an ongoing global pandemic, and we’re more communicative than ever!

Some people, however, reject this idea of sharing your every movement for the entire world to see; especially celebrities, who have a larger audience waiting to hang on their every word and scrutinize the smallest of movements. Here are some of your favorite celebrities who simply refuse to touch social media. We get it, though. If everyone was going to intricately analyze my half-hearted attempts at 3am humor, I wouldn’t want to be on any Internet platforms either!

1. Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe is certainly an enigma of sorts -- he was the titular Harry Potter throughout all 8 movies, perfectly portraying the young, brazen wizard, and then he decided to do whatever he wants. Radcliffe now has a memorable stint on Broadway in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, a dozen eclectic indie films, and a handful of eccentric characters under his belt. You will not find him on social media, however. He mentioned in a "Hot Ones" interview that he could see himself getting a Twitter if he was certain he wouldn’t get in fights with people every single day. Celebrities -- they are truly just like us!

2. Keira Knightley

Better known as The Queen of Period Films, Keira Knightley is sweet, earnest, and very honest about her journey through fame and how it has impacted her. In an interview, she admitted, “Fame is a very strange thing at any age… You're still becoming. You know, you’re not who you are going to be.” So it makes complete sense to say that Mrs. Knightley leaves no trace of herself online, giving her the space to grow and transform into the best versions of herself through the different seasons of life.

3. Emma Stone

Emma Stone is absolutely one of the most beloved actresses of our generation. She nailed her trademark early roles as the snarky, witty main character (see Olive in Easy A, Wichita in Zombieland, etc.) and has since expanded into period films (The Favourite), musicals (La La Land), and even a spectacular drama mini-series on Netflix ("Maniac"). Stone refuses to join social media, however, for the same reason many of us consider leaving it: life seems too perfect! No one is able to be their real selves on a platform where everyone is in constant competition with one another, and Emma Stone is taking the smartest route of all -- Opt out of online culture, buy into real life.

4.  Robert Pattinson

He started as the young, hopeful Cedric Diggory, lit up (literally) our big screens as the bloodthirsty Edward Cullen, and now dominates the indie film market with his extraordinary roles in films like The LighthouseTenet, and the upcoming The Batman. Robert Pattinson has kept an iron-like grip on moviegoers for over a decade now, but his choice in film roles are just about all we know about him. He has admitted to having a secret Twitter account -- no biases based around who he is or the amount of public influence he has -- but chooses to keep his private life very private. Major respect, R-Patz.

5. Benedict Cumberbatch

However you choose to spell and pronounce his name, there’s no doubting that Benedict Cumberbatch is wickedly talented and continues to impress audiences around the world. He rose to immense fame as the modern-day Sherlock Holmes in the hit BBC series "Sherlock" and has since landed roles within the Marvel universe as Doctor Strange, Colonel Mackenzie in 1917, and his most recent sweeping sensation as Phil Burbank in The Power of the Dog. Cumberbatch has admitted, however, that he wouldn’t be able to tweet “to save his life”. “I’d go over my character limits and never make any sense. It would just consume me and I find that whole thing ultimately very toxic,” he acknowledged.
