Hawksbill Turtle
The greatest threat to the Hawksbill turtle is the illegal trade of its shells for jewelry and ornaments. This sea turtle is also largely threatened by fishing. Because these animals need to reach the surface to breathe, they often drown once they are caught. Excessive egg collection, pollution, and coastal development also play a role in making the Hawksbill turtle endangered.
It’s no surprise that the cleanliness of our oceans is extremely important for our sea animals. We can help our water friends by properly disposing of garbage and taking extra precautions when transporting resources by water. When fishing, we can limit loss of life by ensuring we safely return innocent animals to the water.
