Zoe Saldana and Julia Stiles shoplifted as youngsters
Zoe Saldana and Julia Stiles both attempted to steal from stores when they were younger.
The Star Trek Beyond actress appeared alongside Jason Bourne star Julia on program The Late Late Show with James Corden on Tuesday night (19Jul16), where they shared their experiences of growing up in New York City.
Zoe told James that being young in such a big, tough city forced
her to become street smart and grow up "really fast", so she was
only seven when she shoplifted, although after she committed the
crime, she felt so guilty she went back to return it.
"I stole a packet of erasers and I ran for my life," she recalled.
"I felt so bad I thought I was going to die so I went back to the
grocery store, I wait in line and I returned it and I'm thinking
she was going to say thank you and she just went, 'Alright move,
move, move, you're holding up the line.'"
When Zoe revealed she used to discuss shoplifting with her pals at
that young age, Julia also confessed she too had tried to steal but
she was caught red-handed before making her get away.
"I stole a compact mirror from a Path Mark... like a drug store,"
Julia added. "I remember I couldn't stop moving, I snuck it up my
sleeve and I couldn't stop walking around the aisles as I did it so
of course I got caught by an older lady who grabbed my wrist and
took me to the register and tattled on me and I was sobbing,
crying. Luckily, they didn't call my parents but I guess my parents
know now."
Ghostbusters director Paul Feig shared the couch with them on the
show and also had a shoplifting story - he once stole candy bars
from a 7-Eleven convenience store with a friend, but they were
caught on a separate occasion when his pal tried to take toy cars.
Shop staff called Paul's parents and he was scolded by his dad, who
also owns a store.
