Zendaya slams Internet troll over insensitive rape tweet
Zendaya took aim at an Twitter troll after he asked followers which celebrity they would rape if the events in horror film franchise The Purge were for real.
On Sunday (03Jul16), the 19-year-old Disney star was tagged in a post along with photos of Beyonce, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, and the user asked his more than 6,500 followers, "If the purge was real who y'all raping?".
Referencing the movie, which takes place in a world where all
crimes are legalized for a 12-hour period, his tweet made the
rounds on the Internet and eventually came to the attention of
Zendaya, who was quick to shut down the insensitive post.
"This is absolutely disgusting and you should be ashamed of
yourself," she wrote. "Is this really what my generation thinks is
ok? People are sick..."
Although the user deleted the tweet, he followed up by bragging
about getting her attention and described the situation "lit"
(exciting), which prompted the star to respond once again.
"The only thing that’s lit is your immortality and inhumanity young
man. I pray you find some sense.”
Zendaya previously shut down an Internet user last year (15), when
the social media troll implied that her parents were ugly.
"First I’m gonna pray for you," she wrote at the time. "While
you're so concerned about what my parents look like, please know
that these are two of the most selfless people in the world. They
have chosen to spend their entire life, not worried about trivial
things such as looks and insulting people’s parents on Twitter, but
instead became educators who have dedicated their lives to
teaching, cultivating and filling young shallow minds. (One of the
most important yet underpaid jobs we have).
"Please, log out, go to school, hug a teacher and read a textbook.
And while you’re at it, go look in the mirror and know that you too
are beautiful, because such hateful things only stem from internal
struggles. Bless you."
