Tom Cruise to star in Van Helsing

Tom Cruise is set to replace Hugh Jackman as the titular character in a new Van Helsing film.

Hugh Jackman took on the role of vigilante monster hunter Gabriel Van Helsing in the hit 2004 horror film but it appears Tom Cruise will be now taking over in a "re-imagining" of the franchise.

Universal Studios bosses have signed a two-year deal with Transformers screenwriting duo Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, who will pen a new script and Tom Cruise is already attached to star and produce.

The original film also featured Kate Beckinsale. It is not known if she will return for the new movie.
