Thieves steal thousands from Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop store in New York

Gwyneth Paltrow's goop pop-up store in New York has been targeted by thieves, who escaped with more than $173,000 worth of merchandise on Saturday (05Dec15).

The actress opened the temporary shop, titled goop mrkt, in Manhattan's Columbus Circle last month (Nov15) and has blogged about it on her lifestyle site goop.com. It appears thieves were attracted to the designer goods and other luxury items.

The store suffered a security breach over the weekend, when staff members had to call in police officials to investigate a serious theft.

"There was an isolated incident Saturday afternoon involving a very limited number of items, which was reported to the NYPD (New York Police Department)," a goop spokesperson tells People.com. "While the store was crowded during one of our busiest days, thankfully the NYPD responded quickly, our customers and staff are safe, and we remain open for business with proper security precautions in place."

Authorities have yet to name any suspects or make any arrests.

Gwyneth, who has also debuted pop-up stores in Los Angeles, Dallas, Texas and Chicago, Illinois, has yet to personally comment on the incident.

The goop mrkt in New York City will remain in business until Christmas Eve (24Dec15).

News of the incident emerges almost a month after the Iron Man star unveiled plans to expand her goop brand, which she launched in 2008, with a publishing company in partnership with Grand Central Life & Style.

As part of the deal, Gwyneth and her staff will produce four books a year. The first release will be a health-conscious cookbook, titled It's All Easy: Healthy, Delicious Weeknight Meals in Under 30 Minutes, which is due out in April (16). The 43 year old will also release a beauty book next autumn (16).
