Ten million tried to snap up Adele tour tickets
Around 10 million fans fought to buy tickets for Adele's tour even though there were only 750,000 seats available.
The tickets sold out shortly after going on sale on Thursday (17Dec15), four days after she announced she would be touring in America from July next year (16).
Editors at Huffington Post report that only 750,000 tickets were
available for the entire tour, but 10 million fans logged onto to
Ticketmaster's website in an attempt to secure places at the
long-awaited gigs.
Four million devotees reportedly attempted to snap up the 120,000
tickets that were available for her six shows at New York's Madison
Square Garden in August (16).
Jared Smith, president of Ticketmaster North America, thanked staff
for their efforts in keeping the site up and running while a record
number of users logged on to get the tickets.
"Thanks to your efforts - even with what I'm told was easily an
all-time record of 10 million + fans rushing to our site - we
delivered a good experience for as many fans as possible," he wrote
in a memo obtained by the Huffington Post.
The Hello star recently opened up about her reluctance to tour, and
told British newspaper The Times that she is frightened by how
lonely she finds it.
"Performing to that many people for every night, for that long, I
find something very lonely about it. Which sounds weird, because
you're performing for like, 20,000 people every night, but you
leave on your own," she said. "You don't go home and, like, share a
bed with 20,000 people and have a little pyjama party and watch
movies.
"Obviously I'm going to have my friends with me and I'm going to
have my family with me, but the thought of how lonely that could be
frightens me more than the load of doing a worldwide tour."
