Taylor Swift surprises fan with video call and charity gift
Taylor Swift surprised a fan with an impromptu video call and a hefty donation to his charity dance marathon.
Taylor devotee Igor Lekontsev, who is a student at the University of Connecticut (UConn) was shocked when the singer contacted him via Apple's FaceTime app.
"I literally had no idea about her contacting me until she did it,"
he told the university's student newspaper The Daily Campus. "I
couldn't have prepared for this two months ago."
According to Igor, the Blank Space singer became aware of his
involvement with UConn's HuskyTHON dance event, organised to help
raise money for a local children's medical centre, from his page on
social networking site Tumblr.
After a discussion about her music the pop superstar offered to
make a donation to the event, held at the university last weekend.
Later organisers received a donation under the name Taylor Swift
for $1,989. 1989 is the name of Taylor's current album. HuskyTHON
organisers are hoping to raise $700,000 in total.
The donation isn't Taylor's only recent act of generosity; she also
recently donated $250,000 to fellow musician Kesha, who lost a
court battle on Friday requesting record company Sony Music release
her from her contract.
The Tik Tok singer alleges bosses attempted to force her to work
with producer Dr. Luke whom she accuses of sexual abuse, and that
the label won't promote her music unless she does work with the
music maker.
