Suspect charged with murder in stabbing of Nicki Minaj tour associate
Police in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania have upgraded charged the man arrested on suspicion of stabbing two members of Nicki Minaj's entourage with murder.
De'Von Pickett, aka Day Day, was killed in an attack outside the Che Bar & Grill in the early hours of 18 February (15) following an argument with another man inside the venue.
A second member of Minaj's road crew, Eric Parker, also sustained
injuries in the incident and remains hospitalized at the city's
Einstein Medical Center.
Pickett and Parker had been in the city ahead of rehearsals for
Minaj's upcoming tour with local hero, rapper Meek Mill.
Late last month (23Feb15), local detectives arrested Pierce Boykin,
31, and charged him with attempted murder, aggravated assault and
related counts, and now he has been officially charged with the
murder of Pickett, Homicide Captain James Clark tells
ABCNews.com.
Clark reveals the charge was upgraded after additional evidence
proved he was responsible for both stabbings.
Meanwhile, friends and family gathered in Pickett's hometown of
Brooklyn, New York on Saturday (28Feb15) for his funeral.
The Roots' drummer Questlove, who is a Philadelphia native, was
among the mourners, and he took to Instagram.com to show a shot of
his view at the packed funeral, writing, "I'm so overwhelmed and
amazed at the outpouring of love #DayDay received today. His
musician community, his church community, his family, EVERYONE had
the most amazing awe inspiring stories about his life.
"I hate that it's events like these that make me aware and grateful
for the journey I've taken and the loved ones that I have. In
everyday life I try to downplay the events that occur (guilt?
Indifference? masking?) but I walked away inspired by the
consistent narrative that was Day's life. Indeed he was excited and
just happy to... just be. Thank you for everything you've done for
us sir. Eternally #RIPDayDay!"
