Selena Gomez divides fans with 'pray for Gaza' post
Selena Gomez has waded into the war in the Middle East with an Instagram post in which she urged her fans to "pray for Gaza".
The Come & Get It singer sparked a political debate on the social networking site after making her feelings known on Friday (18Jul14).
She wrote, "It's About Humanity. Pray for Gaza... Please pray for
those families and babies today. Please always remember what's
important in life. It's not any of this. We are here to help,
inspire and love. Be that change. #wearethenextgeneration"
Her good intentions were slammed by many followers, who felt the
pop star shouldn't be concerning herself with international affairs
- and her Twitter.com page was flooded with 'haters' threatening to
'unfollow' her for her comments.
Charged by others who praised her for the message about the
controversial Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Gomez returned to
Instagram over the weekend and posted an image of a woman
meditating in the ocean.
The captioned the shot with, "And of course to be clear, I am not
picking any sides. I am praying for peace and humanity for
all!"
Gomez's drama comes just days after Rihanna posted and quickly
deleted a tweet, which read: "#FreePalestine".
She had second thoughts eight minutes later and replaced the post
with, "Let's pray for peace and a swift end to the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict! Is there any hope?"
