Scarlett Johansson suggests career goals killed Ryan Reynolds marriage
Actress Scarlett Johansson's marriage to Ryan Reynolds suffered because of their "competitive" careers.
The Hollywood couple was married for three years until 2011, and Scarlett has now admitted being in a relationship with a fellow star presented some real issues they were unable to overcome.
"The logistics of being with another actor are challenging," she
mused to Cosmopolitan magazine, without mentioning the Deadpool
star by name. "There has to be a real understanding of how you
share your time, especially when two people's careers are going at
the same rate. Or even if one person is more successful than the
other; that also proves challenging. There may be a competitive
thing."
Scarlett has since found love with French journalist and art dealer
Romain Dauriac, who she wed in 2014, and although they occasionally
have a clash of opinion, it's never anything serious.
Recalling one night in, when they were watching hit entrepreneurial
show Shark Tank, she said, "My husband had this idea for an app and
was like, 'We should pitch this to Shark Tank!'"
However, Scarlett wasn't such a fan of his business idea: "He was
like, 'What? You mean it wouldn't pass the Sharks?' I was like,
'We're not gonna get into a fight over this!'"
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old beauty has also opened up about the
couple's jet-setting lifestyle, as they split their time between
her native New York City and her beau's home in Paris, France, a
move she insists was the best decision she has ever made.
"We're both street rats," she explained of their similar
upbringings. "Being a New Yorker is a part of your personality, and
he grew up in the heart of Paris. Just surviving the urban jungle
is character building. It stays with you forever."
And Scarlett is keen to continue raising their daughter, Rose, in
the centre of a big, bustling city, because she doesn't think
moving to the suburbs is a life she can adjust to.
"It seems wonderful to be raised in a natural setting, but I
wouldn't know how to do it," she confessed. "A big city would
always draw me back."
Scarlett's love of the city life may have been another issue of
contention in her marriage with Ryan as he and his second wife,
actress Blake Lively, now call the leafy suburb of Bedford, New
York home.
