Scarlett Johansson is highest-grossing actress
Scarlett Johansson has become the highest-grossing actress of all time thanks to her run in the Marvel Avengers movies.
According to Box Office Mojo, she has entered the top 10 list of the top-grossing film stars in Hollywood, with a box office revenue of over $3 billion.
Harrison Ford tops the list ahead of Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan
Freeman, Tom Hanks, and Scarlett's Avengers castmate Robert Downey
Jr., while Eddie Murphy, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, and Michael Caine
also make the top 10 ahead of the actress.
At 31, Johansson is also the youngest star in Box Office Mojo's top
10.
She's nine spots ahead of the nearest actress - Cameron Diaz is
19th on the new list.
And Helena Bonham Carter (26), Cate Blanchett (29), Julia Roberts
(30), Elizabeth Banks (31), Emma Watson (32), and Anne Hathaway
(50) are the only other women in the top 50.
Johansson's biggest movie to date is 2012’s The Avengers, which
earned over $623 million in America alone. This year, she also
starred in The Jungle Book, Hail, Caesar! and Captain America:
Civil War, while her upcoming slate of movies includes Rock That
Body, Ghost in the Shell, and Sing.
Scarlett is also part of the Hollywood women's movement geared
towards equal pay for actors and actress, and in her May 2016 cover
story for Cosmopolitan, she said, "There’s something icky about me
having that conversation unless it applies to a greater whole. I am
very fortunate, I make a really good living, and I’m proud to be an
actress who’s making as much as many of my male peers at this
stage.
"I think every woman has (been underpaid). But unless I’m
addressing it as a larger problem, for me to talk about my own
personal experience with it feels a little obnoxious. It’s part of
a larger conversation about feminism in general."
