Russell Brand: 'I hope to be friends with Katy Perry one day'
Russell Brand hopes to be friends with ex-wife Katy Perry at some point in the future, calling her an "extraordinary woman".
The British comedian split from the Roar singer in October 2010, just 14 months after they married. The reasons for the breakdown of their marriage was never revealed but Russell admitted the "very trivial" nature of their split makes him hopeful that they can get back onto good terms some day.
Asked by Grazia magazine if he could ever be friends with Katy, Russell replied: "Oh yeah, I hope so. I'm willing and open for reconciliation, any kind.
"Because if we can't overcome our relatively trivial personal disputes in this world, what hope is there for us?"
Both Katy and Russell have moved on from the marriage. While Katy is in an on-off relationship with Orlando Bloom, Russell is a father to 10-month-old daughter Mabel with blogger wife Laura Gallacher.
But looking back on his first time down the aisle, Russell insisted he has no regrets about the relationship, which he called "a very important and lovely time in my life".
"I don't regret being married to Katy at all," he added. "I have very positive feelings about that whole experience and Katy is an extraordinary woman."
Since becoming a father, Russell has done his utmost to positively alter some of his views in life. And his take on feminism is one that has altered drastically since welcoming Mabel into the world.
"It would have been a bit rich to call myself a feminist before, but having Mabel has made me one in a very simple way," he mused. "I couldn't consider the idea of being a woman before and now I can.
"And the thought that my daughter would be restricted, held down in any way or disqualified on the basis of her gender is one I really don't care for at all."
