Rosario Dawson fined $50 for protest arrest
Actress Rosario Dawson was fined $50 (GBP35) following her arrest at a rally in Washington, D.C. on Friday (15Apr16).
The Sin City star was booked for obstruction and ignoring police warnings after sitting on the ground to protest political corruption and a number of issues at the state of the nation gathering.
"This is a tremendous issue and I'm really grateful that I could be
here and be a part of it," the 36-year-old actress told reporters
following her arrest. "I wanted for me, personally, to be in
solidarity with the people who put themselves on the line.
"These are really important issues and the people really need them,
and we're putting ourselves on the line for what a lot of people
across America and across the planet really want to be able to see
happen in America, which is one person, one vote and to take the
money out of politics, so we can have fair elections with real
progressives."
Dawson also praised the police officers who arrested her and
others, revealing they warned her several times she would be
arrested, adding, "The police were really great with us and really
lovely."
The outspoken actress, who was arrested in 2004 for protesting
against then-President George W. Bush, has been documenting the
rally in Washington via Instagram.
Following her release on Friday, she tweeted, "Sit in, sit down,
stand up... Whatever it takes!"
