Robert Downey, Jr. steps out for first date since son's birth

Robert Downey, Jr. and his wife Susan enjoyed their first date night since their baby son's birth by attending The Avengers premiere in Los Angeles together on Wednesday night (11Apr12).

The actor, who has a teenage son from a previous relationship, welcomed his first child, a boy named Exton, with his film producer partner in February (12).

They both turned out to walk the red carpet at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood to unveil the actor's new superhero film, and the outing marked the first time they had been out together since the baby was born.

Downey, Jr. tells Access Hollywood, "This is our first date since we had a kid so there's no telling what might happen tonight."

While Susan gushes about the baby: "He is so good... We cannot figure out who he looks like. He looks like Exton right now. Everyone is like, 'He looks like you' and then they see Robert and they say, 'He looks like Robert'. So I think he just looks like a combo."

The actor then reveals both he and his wife attended the premiere wearing custom-made amethyst jewellery in honour of their son's birthstone, while Downey, Jr. also wore a deep purple suit.

He says, "In honour of his birth stone, which is amethyst , we are wearing these Robert Procop jewels this evening, " while Susan adds, "We bringing a little bit of Exton with us."
