Paris Hilton blames hoaxer for Nelson Mandela tweet

Paris Hilton has blamed an Internet hoaxer for faking a message from her Twitter account suggesting she had confused Nelson Mandela with Martin Luther King, Jr.

Online bloggers were sent into a spin on Thursday night (05Dec13) when a screen grab of a message, purportedly from Hilton's account, appeared on the web in the hours after news of Mandela's death broke.

The tweet, which reports suggested had been deleted from Hilton's page after a few minutes, read, "RIP Nelson Mandela. Your 'I Have a Dream' speech was so inspiring. An amazing man."

However, Hilton has now spoken out to insist she didn't mistake Mandela for King, who delivered his famous 'I Have a Dream' speech in 1963, five years before his assassination, and insisted a prankster must have faked the tweet.

In a post on the social networking website, she writes, "Whoever made that stupid fake tweet lacks respect to the loss the world is mourning right now. Same goes for all the blogs who ran with it... I'm so sick of people lying about me & using my name. Please get a life & stop talking about mine... U r (you are) pathetic. Get your own life."
