Nicki Minaj 'praying for peace' in Trinidad

Nicki Minaj is "praying for peace" in her native Trinidad and Tobago after government ministers recently declared a state of emergency following a nationwide crime wave.

A mandatory curfew was imposed on residents in the capital city, Port of Spain, and surrounding areas on 21 August (11), banning locals from venturing outdoors between 9pm and 5am every day. The move is aimed at tackling widespread gang crime following the murders of 11 people within just four days.

Minaj was born in St. James, Trinidad and moved to Queens, New York with her family when she was five, but she still has close ties to the island and has been keeping a close eye on the developments in the country.

In a post on her Twitter.com page, the Super Bass hitmaker writes, "Praying for peace in Trinidad. Hoping this 'lock down' will not last long. God bless Trinidad."
