Nicki Minaj had childhood 'phobia' of 'unlocked doors'
Rapper Nicki Minaj developed a paranoia about "unlocked doors" when she was a child after witnessing her allegedly abusive father drag her mother from the seat of a car.
The Super Bass hitmaker has always spoken candidly about her tough upbringing and her parents' strained relationship, and she reveals she became obsessed with looking out for her beloved mum's safety whenever she and her dad had a falling out.
Minaj tells Cosmopolitan magazine, "My mother left him many
different times and came back. He would beg, cry, stalk us... One
time, he pulled my mother out of a car and dragged her for two
blocks.
"After that I had a phobia about unlocked doors. Anywhere my mother
and I were, I made sure the door was locked, because that was my
only way to protect her."
