Nick Cannon's dad dies

Rapper/actor Nick Cannon is mourning the death of his father.

The America's Got Talent host took to social media on Sunday (22May16) to share the loss of motivational televangelist James Cannon with fans, as he remembered his "Pops" in a series of photos.

"Man I'm gonna miss these Sundays...," he wrote beside a photo of himself and his dad sitting in the front of a convertible car as they headed to church.

Mariah Carey's ex-husband then shared a black and white picture of the pair, with Nick holding a Bible, and added, "Rest in Power My Guy!"

Another image paying tribute to James featured three generations of Cannons, with the veteran smiling as he lay in bed beside Nick and the entertainer's five-year-old son, Moroccan.

"Will forever cherish this moment!" the 35-year-old posted.

He also uploaded a collage of pictures of himself and his father on various red carpets over the years, and honoured his memory in the accompanying caption.

"Love you Pops! I feel you already! To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord," Nick wrote as he quoted the Bible. "It's a celebration!"

He concluded the post by adding a quote from his dad: "'Job Well Done My Son'".

Moroccan and his twin sister Monroe are Nick's children with superstar Mariah. The couple split in 2014 after six years of marriage.

Mariah has since moved on and is now engaged to wed Australian billionaire James Packer, who proposed to the Touch My Body singer earlier this year (16).
