Nick Cannon: 'I'm not stalling Mariah divorce, I want her to be happy'
Mariah Carey's estranged husband has laughed off reports suggesting he's stalling on signing the couple's divorce papers.
The singer is hoping to marry her new man, Australian businessman James Packer, later this year (16), but she won't be able to until her marriage to Nick Cannon - the father of the Hero hitmaker's twins - is officially over.
The couple split in 2014 after six years of marriage but Nick and
Mariah have remained close, reuniting to holiday with their
five-year-old kids Monroe and Moroccan.
However, according to a TMZ report, America's Got Talent host
Cannon has been taking his time in signing papers which would make
the pair's divorce final, despite being the one who originally
filed court documents to end the marriage in December, 2014.
Mariah, 46, has allegedly been trying to get Nick to sign off on
the papers for almost a year, but sources claim he is refusing to
put pen to paper as he does not want the union to end.
Cannon has now spoken out about the rumours, telling news show
Extra, "There's nothing to tell", adding, "The media has a problem
of sensationalism.
"Me and Mariah get along great, and it’s a process. Nobody is
holding nothing up. Why would I hold it up? I want her to be
happy... She is such a beautiful spirit."
Meanwhile, Mariah, who accepted Packer's proposal during a private
dinner party in January (16), has revealed she's determined to
become his wife before the end of 2016.
She told Entertainment Tonight, "I mean, that's the goal... but
there's a lot on my plate."
Carey is currently in the middle of her latest Las Vegas residency,
while promoting an upcoming docu-series about her hectic life.
