Neil Patrick Harris hopes to end How I Met Your Mother

Neil Patrick Harris is hoping the upcoming eighth series of How I Met Your Mother will be the last because the castmembers are all "anxious to move forward".

The actor has starred in all eight seasons of the hit comedy, but would like the show to end so he can move from California to the east coast.

He goes on to reveal his castmates Cobie Smulders, Jason Segel and Josh Radnor are also looking to the future now.

He tells Access Hollywood, "Our contracts end at (season eight), so it's one of those, you know, if they wanna do nine, they're welcome to, but we have a lot of other things (going on)... Cobie has got The Avengers that just made a billion dollars, Jason makes a ton of movies, I'm anxious to move east and Josh is directing and acting in movies as well. So, we all are anxious to move forward."

However, Harris believes the actors will all sign up for a ninth season if they are offered a lucrative salary deal, adding, "I think the only way I think a season nine or any longer would happen would be (if it was) financially right - that's the reality of it."
