Miley Cyrus: 'No one knew about MTV EMAs joint stunt'

Miley Cyrus has confirmed it was a joint she was smoking onstage at the MTV Europe Music Awards on Sunday (10Nov13), revealing she thought it would be fun to pull it out of her handbag and light it on stage as she accepted the night's Best Video prize.

The provocative pop star insists no one knew about the stunt as she dreamed it up on her way to the podium after discovering she had a marijuana-laced cigarette in her bag.

Appearing on the U.K.'s Capital FM radio station with the same bag that contained the roll-up, the singer said, "I was just walking out of my room and then I was like, 'Oh, I have this in my bag, that will be really funny.' And I didn't say anything to anybody."

However, the incident put her back in the headlines the following day as many critics took aim at Cyrus, even though marijuana is legal in Amsterdam, Holland, where the awards ceremony was held.

She added, "Some people... over-think so much... I just did it mostly because I knew the fans in Amsterdam would love it and they started going crazy when I did it.

"But I don't really care what the media says because I don't Google myself, so I don't know what they say. And I don't care."

She also admits the joint wasn't simply tossed away after the onstage stunt: "Afterwards, we had the joint and we're all, 'Should we keep this as, like, the joint?' And then we're like, 'No, it's fine, just smoke it, just finish it off.'"
