Mel C admits awkwardness with bandmates over Spice Girls reunion

Relations between Mel C and her Spice Girls bandmates are "awkward" after she turned down the chance to take part in another reunion.

The group was one of the most famous girl bands in history when they hit the big time in the 90s, and Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown and Geri Horner are teaming up for a reunion tour next year (17) to mark 20 years since the release of their debut single Wannabe.

But Mel C, real name Melanie Chisholm, and Victoria Beckham both opted out of the comeback tour, and the singer has admitted things are still slightly fraught with Emma, Mel B and Geri.

"It's a bit awkward at the moment to be honest," Mel said during an interview with Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper's Event magazine. It's going to be, isn't it? But I do know we'll get past it."

Mel didn't reveal the exact amount she was offered to be part of the reunion, but hinted it was "a couple of million pounds". However, the things she went through when the Spice Girls were at the height of their fame put her off going back for another time around.

"When the Spice Girls were at their biggest, I couldn't even really look at myself in the mirror because I didn't like what I saw," she added. "Depression, eating disorders, obsessive over-exercising; I went through all of it. It just didn't feel right to go back."

The girls had also already enjoyed success with a reunion tour and a performance at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, and Mel thinks they should have left it there.

"I loved what we did as the Spice Girls and part of me will be Sporty Spice until I die. We had one reunion (in 2007) and I didn't want to do that," she admitted.

"But I was talked round and it was the right thing to do, we had a great time and then we played at the closing ceremony for the Olympics in 2012. That to me was where (the Spice Girls) should have been laid to rest. Sometimes you just have to say no."
