Meghan Markle to retire from acting

Meghan Markle will step away from acting to start "a new chapter" following her engagement to Prince Harry.

The British royal and the Suits actress announced they are set to wed in the spring (18) on Monday (27Nov17) and subsequently gave their first TV interview as an engaged couple. Meghan was asked about her acting career and she revealed she is looking forward to changing course in her professional and personal life.

Meghan starred on the U.S. TV show for seven seasons, but she exited the series earlier this month (Nov17).

"I don't see it as giving anything up, I just see it as a change," she said in an interview with Sky News. "It's a new chapter, right? And also, keep in mind, I've been working on (Suits) for seven years. We were very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series... I've ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I've done there, and now it's time to work with (Harry) as a team."

Markle has been active in humanitarian and philanthropic causes, an interest she shares with her future husband, and she wants to turn her focus to issues that are important to her.

"I think what's been really exciting as we talk about the transition out of my career and into my role is... the causes that are really important to me that I can focus even more energy on. Very early out of the gate, I think you realize you have access or a voice that people are willing to listen (to) and with that comes a lot of responsibility, which I take seriously."

And the newly engaged couple is thrilled it will be able to work on important causes together.

"There's a hell of a lot of work that needs doing," Prince Harry said. "At the moment for us, it's going to be that our relationship is always put first. But both of us have passion for wanting to make change - change for good."
