Max George calls off engagement

Max George and his actress fiancee Michelle Keegan have called off their engagement - a week after the British pop hunk made his feelings for Jennifer Lopez known during an appearance on American Idol.

The Wanted star confirmed the sad news during a phone chat with Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show on Tuesday (10Apr12), and initially appeared to be too upset to continue.

After one of Ryan Seacrest's sidekicks, Ellen K, asked Max George if it was true he's engaged, the singer said, "No, no, not any more," before the line went dead.

The radio presenter eventually managed to get back to Max George, who stated, "I don't know what happened there," but he seemed unwilling to dwell on the questions about his love life.

He took to Twitter to clear up the hang-up, writing, "Hey everyone, so just to clear up any rumors, me and Shell are still very much together, just there is no wedding. The call got cut off.... And made it sound much worse."

But it's clear the singer has a crush on a bigger star - he planted a kiss on Jennifer Lopez when he met her during an appearance on Idol last week (ends06Apr12), and admits he's very fond of the actress/singer.

Asked by Ryan Seacrest who the biggest flirt in The Wanted is, the 23 year old said, "If it's someone along the lines of Jennifer Lopez, then it's me."

And he confessed that Jennifer Lopez's current boyfriend Casper Smart was not thrilled by his love rival's forwardness: "He gave me about four jabs in the ribs for kissing her."
