Mark Wahlberg was 'absolutely miserable' on The Gambler diet
Mark Wahlberg has vowed never to change his body shape for a film again after he was left feeling "absolutely miserable" as he slimmed down to play a drug addict in new crime drama The Gambler.
The Fighter star shed 61 pounds (27.7 kilograms) for the role by sticking to a liquid diet for four months, but the big lifestyle change left the action man in a constantly bad mood.
His physical transformation was so drastic, director Michael Bay
thought the actor really was on drugs when he called him back to
the Transformers: Age of Extinction set for reshoots.
Wahlberg says, "I basically didn't eat anything. I was miserable
for four months, but then I had to put it all back on because I had
to do additional shooting for Transformers, and when Michael Bay
saw me, he was like, 'Dude, are you smoking crack? What's wrong
with you...?'
"I was miserable, absolutely miserable. Nobody wanted to be around
me and I don't ever want to do it again."
Wahlberg is one of many actors who regularly bulks up and loses
weight for movie roles, insisting, "Whatever it takes, right?"
