Marc Anthony: 'My marriage wasn't sustainable'

Marc Anthony has opened up about about the breakdown of his seven-year marriage to Jennifer Lopez, insisting their relationship "wasn't sustainable".

The stars, who are parents to three-year-old twins Max and Emme, shocked fans in July (11) when they announced their split.

Lopez recently revealed she tried desperately to fix her marriage, and now Anthony has told fans his side of the separation story.

In an interview for TV show Nightline, he says, "I'll tell you that it wasn't something sensationalistic (sic) happening. It was a realisation on both our parts. So, you know, it wasn't shocking. These things happen. It was a decision that we made jointly.

"This is not a funeral. This is not a burial. This is just two people who came together and just realized... I'm saying that it wasn't sustainable the way it was, and that's that."

Anthony also admits he will "always love Jennifer", adding, "She knows that and my kids know that. Jennifer is a wonderful, wonderful woman, a wonderful mother, a wonderful friend."

And he refuses to be downbeat about the split: "It is sad... you think about your family, the possibilities, but we realized very early on that even though we're not together, this story's not over. There's stuff to do together, life to see together through Max and Emme, so it's all good."

The full interview is set to air on Thursday (01Sep11).
