Lady Gaga targets Demi Lovato over eating disorder accusation
Lady Gaga has hit back at Demi Lovato after the singer accused her of glamorising eating disorders by performing with a vomit artist at the recent South by Southwest festival.
The Poker Face came under fire over her controversial performance at the event in Austin, Texas earlier this month (Mar14), when an artist threw up green and black liquid all over her body.
Lovato, who has battled her own eating disorders in the past,
publicly criticized Gaga, accusing her of pushing impressionable
young fans towards bulimia.
In a series of posts in Twitter.com, she wrote, "Sad... As if we
didn't have enough people glamorising eat disorders already...
Putting the word ART in it isn't a free card to do whatever you
want without consequences."
Gaga has now responded to Lovato's concerns, insisting she supports
the young star in her recovery and didn't mean to address the
subject of eating disorders by featuring vomiting in her show.
She tells E! News, "I have struggled with an eating disorder for
over 10 years, and I take that very seriously. I take the struggle
of others very seriously. I am very supportive of Demi's struggle
and her recovery, as well as the recovery of anyone who is
suffering from that. But this performance had absolutely nothing to
do with any eating disorder, and we never intended for it to be
taken that way. I'm really proud of the performance and really
stand by the message of rage and pain that we were trying to
express in that moment."
