Kings Of Leon scrap New York festival performance over extreme weather

Kings Of Leon were forced to abandon their headlining set at a festival in New York on Friday (07Jun13) due to extreme weather conditions.

The rockers were scheduled to take to the stage for the finale of day one of the Governors Ball Music Festival, after electronic artist Pretty Lights, but their sets were axed at late notice after organisers deemed the high winds and heavy rain too dangerous for the shows to take place.

A statement posted on the festival's Facebook.com page at 9pm local time, moments before Pretty Lights was scheduled to perform, read, "Due to sustained high winds and unsafe stage conditions, Kings of Leon and Pretty Lights are unable to perform. Please get home safely. Weather looks great tomorrow."

A later statement added: "The Current wind speeds have made it a safety issue to operate the stages. While Governors Ball and the acts would like for nothing more than the show to go on, the safety of our patrons, performers, and staff must always come first."

The three-day festival is set to continue on Saturday and Sunday (08-09Jun13) as planned, with Guns N' Roses and Kanye West as headliners.
