Kim Kardashian undergoes procedure to turn breech baby
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is breathing a sigh of relief after undergoing a procedure to turn her breech baby around weeks before the delivery.
The 35 year old is currently in the latter stages of pregnancy with her second child and recently revealed her little boy was lying in a breech position, prompting her to consider a C-Section to ensure a safe delivery. However, Kanye West's wife recently underwent a "painful and scary" medical procedure - and it was a success.
"This weekend, I checked into the hospital and underwent a
procedure called an ECV (External Cephalic Version, or a Version),
which is done to manually turn the baby from a breech position to a
head-down position," she writes on her website. "They gave me an IV
(intravenous drip) with medication to relax my uterus, and then
three doctors attempted to work together to turn the baby."
Kardashian's procedure could have induced early labor, which would
have forced her to have a C-Section there and then, but despite the
risks the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star decided to go
forward with her plan, and she is relieved she will no longer have
to worry about needing surgery in the delivery room.
"They don't give you any pain medication, and let me tell you: This
was soooooo painful," she continues. "Probably more painful than
childbirth. BUT it worked!!! My baby is in the right position and
it feels so good to not have the stress of thinking I need a
C-section."
Kardashian is recovering from her procedure, but she is now
battling a sinus infection and flu and has sent her daughter North
to stay with her sister Kourtney, so she can rest.
"She loves sleepovers and I really need this time to get better,"
she adds. "I haven't been able to sleep and just need to catch
up."
