Khloe Kardashian: 'Lamar Odom may fully recover mentally within two years'
Doctors believe it will take Khloe Kardashian's sportsman husband Lamar Odom two years to fully mentally recover from his ongoing health drama.
The fallen basketball player is facing an uphill battle to regain his health after he was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel in October (15). He remained in a coma for several days, during which he suffered multiple strokes, but he has made great strides in his recovery since he was transferred to Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and he is now receiving regular physical therapy sessions to help him learn how to walk and speak again.
Reality TV star Khloe has been by his side throughout the medical
crisis, and she reveals doctors initially thought he only had hours
to live.
"They told me that he had four hours," she recalls of the moment
she learned of Lamar's initial hospitalization. "It's a horrible
call to get. Getting to the hospital and knowing he's in a coma and
having to run these tests or make medical decisions - it's
terrifying."
Khloe, who recently called off plans to expedite her 2013 divorce
from Lamar, tells breakfast show Today the former Los Angeles
Lakers star still has obstacles to overcome on the road to
recovery, but his progress is promising.
"He's OK," she says. "Every day is different. The good thing is
he's off of medical machines that will keep him alive. He's
learning how to walk again and learning... cognitive therapy and
speech therapy. They (doctors) think, like, within a
year-and-a-half to two years that, mentally, he might be fully
recovered. But they don't know."
Khloe is currently struggling with her own health issues after
reportedly contracting a serious staph infection in the hospital
ward where Lamar is being treated.
The illness has left her bedridden and she was forced to cancel a
Houston, Texas book signing for her new lifestyle release Strong
Looks Better Naked on Wednesday (18Nov15).
However, the condition hasn't stopped Khloe from taking critics to
task online - on Wednesday night, she blasted several Twitter users
who insisted she cannot remain legally wed to Lamar while dating
her new sports star boyfriend, Houston Rockets shooting guard James
Harden, suggesting her actions contradict her marriage vows.
"(The) divorce is still going forward," she fired back. "Doesn't
mean I won't be there through sickness and health. I've proven
that."
Responding to another comment, she tweeted, "You should have said
those (things) to the man who went against all our vows. Judge
yourself. F**k off"."
"I think the painkillers I'm on and tweeting is probably not the
best thing," she later stated. "Signing off.... Antibiotics
+painkillers + tweeting does not equal anything good lol (laugh out
loud)."
