Actor/comedian Kevin Hart has donated $250,000 to officials in a financially-strapped Pennsylvania school district to provide youths with 500 new computers.

The Philadelphia native took to his Instagram.com blog on Wednesday (30Oct13) to express his desire to help authorities in charge of the ailing school system, which closed 24 educational facilities and laid off thousands of teachers this summer (13).

He said, "I am taking 250,000 & donating it to the school district & (and) parks & recreation centers to help them buy new computers! My city made me who I am today and for that I am thankful. I will make it my priority to help my city get out of this debt."

His kind gesture has won him high praise from Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, who released a statement which read, "I want to thank Kevin Hart for his incredibly generous gift to our schools, recreation centers and citizens of all ages. These computers will have a very meaningful impact on Philadelphia."
