Kesha slams online body shamers
Kesha preemptively shut down body shamers after posting a photo of herself in a bikini on Instagram.
The Tik Tok star enjoyed a Palm Springs, California getaway over the Easter weekend (25-27Mar16), and kept her followers updated on her vacation by posting shots online.
In one picture, Kesha is lying on her stomach on the steps of a
swimming pool, wearing a black bikini and sunglasses. However, the
pop star anticipated negative feedback from Internet trolls, and
warned her followers she was ready for their remarks.
"not a slave to perfection right now," she wrote. "f**k it... body
shamers please f**k off ain't nobody got time for it.
@lhorizonpalmsprings in my skivvies."
Kesha has previously been open about her body issues, after taking
time out of the spotlight in order treat an eating disorder in
rehab in early 2014.
Following the stint, she penned a candid article for British Elle
magazine about how her body image problems had escalated out of
control.
Kesha wrote, "The music industry has set unrealistic expectations
for what a body is supposed to look like, and I started becoming
overly critical of my own body because of that. I felt like people
were always lurking, trying to take pictures of me with the
intention of putting them up online or printing them in magazines
and making me look terrible.
"I became scared to go out in public, or even use the internet. I
may have been paranoid, but I also saw and heard enough hateful
things to fuel that paranoia.
"I felt like a liar, telling people to love themselves as they are,
while I was being hateful to myself and really hurting my body. I
wanted to control things that were in my power, but I was
controlling the wrong things. I convinced myself being sick, being
skinny, was part of my job."
