Kelly Osbourne apologizes for Trump 'toilet cleaning' remark
Kelly Osbourne is apologizing for condescending remarks she made on live TV on Tuesday (04Aug15) after condemning Donald Trump's statements about Mexican immigrants in America, while suggesting there will be no one to clean his toilets if he booted them all out of the country.
Ozzy Osbourne's outspoken daughter was serving as a guest co-host on talk show The View on Tuesday when she weighed in on Trump's stance on immigration, after he claimed he was leading the polls as the presidential candidate members of the Hispanic community were likely to vote for in the 2016 elections, despite previously branding Mexican immigrants "rapists" who bring drugs and crime into the U.S.
She said, "In what way does he think that people are going to vote
for him after he's just called them rapists and murderers?"
She added, "If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who
is going to be cleaning your toilets, Donald Trump?"
Her off-hand comment prompted co-hosts Rosie Perez and Raven-Symone
to react, insisting "cleaning toilets" are not the only jobs
available to Latinos in America.
Osbourne then backtracked, claiming she misspoke, stating, "I
didn't mean it like that, come on. I would never mean it like that.
I'm not part of this argument."
Perez later cleared the air with Osbourne by apologizing for being
"overly sensitive", insisting the rock offspring is "on our side",
but the scandal continued to rumble on online, and now Osbourne has
issued a statement to clear up her comments, defending herself
against allegations of racism.
In a post online, she writes, "I want to start by saying I ALWAYS
take responsibility for my actions. In this particular case I will
take responsibility for my poor choice of words but I will not
apologize for being a racist as I am NOT. I whole-hearted f**ked up
today. I don't want to bulls**t anyone with lame excuses.
"Although, I was stopped mid-sentence by Rosie and couldn't finish
my point I will not let Rosie take responsibility for my words. I
should have known better as I was on The View and it was live. I've
learned a very valuable lesson.
"It is my hope that this situation will open up a conversation
about immigration and the Latin community as a whole."
She adds, "By the way I clean my own f**king toilets."
