Katy Perry: 'Birthday car crash was staged'
Katy Perry has assured fans the traffic accident she caused in her new video for Birthday was staged.
In character as drunken clown Kriss, the pop star wanders off, blindfolded, from a kids' park party and into traffic on a nearby road, causing an SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) to swerve to avoid hitting her. The vehicle then crashes into a parked car.
But the stunt was staged as part of Perry's new hidden camera
video, in which she goes undercover as the world's worst party
performers.
She says, "That was a staged incident. The car crash was all
staged."
And she reveals she had to con party planners into thinking they
were taking part in a reality TV show as she dressed up as an aged
burlesque dancer, a mouse-eating animal trainer, a chubby Jewish
MC, a party princess and Kriss The Clown.
The Dark Horse singer explains, "We had to keep this super top
secret. Of course, I had to go completely undercover, so it was
skewed as a reality show called Birthday Blowout. So people signed
up their birthday parties for this crazy reality show where
anything could go, and anything did go...!The whole thing was
staged."
In the video, Perry only reveals her true identity once as guests
at a kids' party question her face-painting skills. She takes off
her princess wig and mask and declares, "I'm Katy Perry" to the
shocked, screaming fans.
