Kanye West in bizarre onstage Taylor Swift rant

Kanye West revisited his beef with Taylor Swift in an onstage rant at a concert in Manila, The Phillippines on Saturday (09Apr16).

Famous, a track on his latest album The Life of Pablo references his connection to the pop star in its lyrics as it features the line, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that b**ch famous," a reference to the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when the rapper interrupted Taylor's speech as she was about to receive the Best Female Video of the Year award.

Kanye performed the track for the first time at the Paradise International Music Festival at the city's Aseana City Open Grounds venue. After the song ended he stopped to tell the audience how it had been written about his feelings of unjust treatment after the 2009 incident.

“What I wanted you to know the whole time in the spirit of Nina Simone, in the spirit of real artists, this is the song that broke the writer’s block for me because it’s something I wanted to say so bad that they told me I couldn’t say," he told fans.

"That night when I went onstage was the beginning of the end of my life. You know what night I’m talking about. When I just said what everybody else was thinking. So if I get in trouble for saying the truth; what’s being said the rest of the time?"

The Jesus Walks star went on to talk about how he felt unfairly punished for saying Beyonce should've won the prize.

"I had to fight for every day of my life when the whole world turned against me for saying out loud what everyone else felt," he added. "But that's the job of an artist, of a true artist, not to be controlled by financiers, not to be controlled by perception but only to be controlled by their truth."

Kanye's defence of his lyrics comes after Taylor gave a speech at February's (16) Grammy Awards which criticised his decision to reference her in the track.

"I want to say to all the young women out there there are going to be people along the way who are going to try and undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame," she said in her speech accepting the Album of the Year trophy.
