Kanye West has change of heart about 'brother' Kid Cudi
Kanye West has made peace with his "brother" Kid Cudi, a week after blasting his former protege for "disrespecting" him in a Twitter rant about fake artists.
The Day 'n' Nite rapper, who scored his big break on Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music label in 2008, courted controversy last week (14Sep16) when he hit out at fellow artists who make "corny" music, claiming they "wont (sic) be lasting too much longer". He later clarified he was referring to Kanye and Drake.
His online outburst prompted both superstars to respond with angry
attacks, with the Stronger hitmaker calling Cudi out during his
show in Tampa, Florida later that night.
"Kid Cudi, don't ever mention 'Ye name," he fumed, referring to
himself in the third person. "I birthed you... Respect the God!
"You know how many people wish they could be signed to G.O.O.D.
Music, get they life changed? Have that opportunity? Never forget
that. I'm so hurt. I feel so disrespected... Why y'all got to come
at me?... Don't never mention my name in a bad manner. None of
y'all!"
However, by Tuesday night (20Sep16), Kanye had changed his tune
about his old collaborator, and instead decided to show him some
love while onstage in Houston, Texas.
"He's the most important artist of the past 10 years, most
influential. And I hope he's doing well," he told the crowd. "Kid
Cudi is my brother."
Cudi has yet to publicly respond to Kanye's peace offering, but
it's not the first time relations between the pair have been
strained.
Earlier this year (16), Cudi, who left G.O.O.D. Music in 2013,
admitted he had to clear the air with his former label boss before
hitting the studio together again to work on the tracks Father
Stretch My Hands Pt. 1 and Waves for Kanye's The Life of Pablo
album.
"That was the first time I had been around him and his team in a
while," he told Billboard.com. "In order to get back into the
creative process, we had to talk. I'm not one of those people who's
just going to come around after a while, jump in and make music. We
needed to have a big bro, lil bro convo (sic). As soon as we had
that, we were good. Whatever we were dealing with, it was a
beautiful thing to clear the air about. I'm really happy to be back
working with my friends."
