Justin Bieber presents NHS choir with chart-topping award
Justin Bieber met with his U.K. Christmas number one rivals to present them with a chart-topping award.
The race for the coveted U.K. Christmas number one single spot last December (15) was a tight one between the Sorry singer and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS (National Health Service) Choir in London.
Justin publicly backed them to win and urged his fans on
Twitter.com to buy their charity single A Bridge Over You over his
track Love Yourself, contributing to the choir's chart victory.
Justin came face-to-face with his rivals when he was in London last
week (ends28Feb16) for the BRIT Awards. Video footage shows him
giving them high-fives and posing for pictures before presenting
them with the number one trophy, which is given to all U.K. chart
toppers by the Official Charts Company.
He told OfficialCharts.com: "I was honoured to meet everyone from
the choir and I’m really happy that they got their number one."
The pop star was also given his own prize to commemorate his
record-breaking run at the top of the U.K. chart. The award
featured his Purpose album artwork and the words, "Justin Bieber
The first artist in history to hold top 3 positions in the UK
Official Singles Chart". The framed artwork also listed the
positions of his songs Love Yourself, Sorry and What Do You Mean?
during his record-breaking week in January (16).
He was also given three number one trophies as all three singles
had topped the chart between September (15) and January (16).
On his way out of the meet-and-greet session, he told the singers
to "keep making smashes".
In December, he gave his support to the NHS Choir, writing on
Twitter, "I'm hearing this UK Christmas race is close...but the
@Choir_NHS single is for charity... So... for 1 week it's ok not to
be #1. Let's do the right thing & help them win. It's Christmas.
@Choir_NHS good luck".
