John Lydon argues for drug legalisation during TV debate
Punk icon John Lydon proved he still had an anarchic streak after arguing with British politicians about legalising drugs during a U.K. TV debate.
The former Sex Pistols rebel took a seat on the panel of current affairs show Question Time on Thursday night (05Jul12) alongside leading figures from a range of political parties.
Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) Louise Mensch was arguing
against the legalisation of drugs, which prompted Lydon to insist
British citizens should be able to get high legally if they so
wish.
He said, "I don't see why these things (drugs) should be illegal if
the correct information is out there.
"Here's the problem - you can kill yourself with two tablespoons of
table salt. Are you now going to ban table salt? Let us as human
beings determine our own journey in life."
The notoriously outspoken rocker also turned the air blue during
the hour-long programme, ranting, "I'm not talking as a middle
class t**t here!"
Lydon also tackled the subjects of bankers' bonuses, media mogul
Rupert Murdoch's power over the press and cuts in the British
Army.
