Jennifer Lawrence to play Fidel Castro's mistress

Jennifer Lawrence has been cast as former Cuban leader Fidel Castro's lover in a new movie.

The Joy star is set to play Marita Lorenz in Dear Fidel, which has been written by Eric Warren Singer - the man behind Jennifer's hit film American Hustle.

The movie will chronicle Lorenz's romance with Fidel Castro, which began when she was just 19.

After falling pregnant and having an abortion, Lorenz left Cuba and was recruited by the CIA for an assassination mission. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she returned home in 1960 to carry out the mission but fell in love.

She was also a top FBI spy in the 1970s.

Lorenz now lives in Maryland.
