Jamie Bell watched football to impress Kate Mara

Jamie Bell once spent an entire night watching football so he could impress girlfriend Kate Mara.

The couple met while filming the Fantastic Four reboot released last year (15) and seemingly confirmed their romance with regular outings together full of public displays of affection. Neither star has spoken about their relationship status until now, with Kate openly speaking about her beau during an appearance on Monday night’s (28Nov16) Conan.

The House of Cards actress is the great-granddaughter of New York Giants founder Tim Mara and Pittsburgh Steelers initiator Art Rooney, Sr., so Billy Elliot star Jamie made sure he learnt all about football during the early days of their relationship.

“Somehow I end up dating a lot of Englishmen... They like soccer, not football,” Kate grinned to host Conan O’Brien. “My boyfriend right now, my boyfriend Jamie, is amazing and he surprised me one day; when we first started dating, he spent a night where all he did was watch all the previous season of the Giants – every game. So the next time we watched a game together he knew everything about it, which was amazing. He did his homework.”

Her mother owns the Steelers, while her dad’s relatives set up the Giants. Not all of her beaus have made a good impression though, as Kate recalled a story of when an ex-boyfriend visited one time after the Giants won the Super Bowl.

“The trophy had just arrived, and my parents were very excited about this, (my mom) said, ‘Would you like to see it? Would you like to hold it?’” Kate remembered. “They’ve sent white gloves that you put on before you can hold the trophy, and so he was a very enthusiastic man... And he put on the gloves and he went to lift up the trophy but he lifted it up from the base, which we didn’t know wasn’t connected to the trophy, it fell, and in slow motion... he kicked his foot up and caught it in his hands, and he dented just a tiny part.”
