James Van Der Beek took on the unexpected role of playing Diplo in a bizarre new ad for the DJ's upcoming tour.

The electronic dance star opted to let the former Dawson's Creek actor see what it was like to be him for a day in a promotional video for his Mad Decent Block Party.

In the clip, James is sat in a recording studio while mixing a track on the sound board, and introduces himself as Diplo.

James then says, "People come up to me all the time and say, 'Diplo, yo your life must be crazy.' Nah it's just life fam (family). Ain't no different than yours."

He then makes his case by going through the motions of his daily routine, which begins with him waking up to a live harp player. "Diplo" then invites the viewer to take a tour of his house, as he walks through a a hallway full of half-naked ladies twerking as dollar bills fall on them, shows off the guy he pays to run his social media accounts, and enters a training facility where he fends off sword-yielding ninjas representing the "haters".

He ends the tour by riding off on a white horse.

For this year's (16) Mad Decent Block Party, which kicks off in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on 30 July (16), Diplo will be joined by Kesha, Tiesto and AlunaGeorge, among others.
