Jake Shears condemns Azealia Banks' homophobic comments
Scissor Sisters star Jake Shears has criticized his former collaborator Azealia Banks over the rapper's recent homophobic rant at celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.
Banks became embroiled in an online feud with openly-gay Hilton on Twitter.com and she sparked outrage by labelling him a "f**got".
The 212 hitmaker has since apologized for the insult, but Shears,
who is gay himself, has some advice for the rising hip-hop
star.
Shears, who collaborated with Banks on Scissor Sisters' recent hit
Shady Love, has condemned the singer's use of the word, comparing
her actions to late pop star Donna Summer, who allegedly made
disparaging comments about her gay fans.
In a series of tweets, Shears writes, "Oh yeah. 'F**got'.... Give
me a f**king break. It all about context. And right now, I'm sorry,
but context is not on your side. Donna Summer was ostracised for a
decade (for the) words she used about her gay fans. Too bad she
didn't have Twitter to recant them immediately."
