Jake Gyllenhaal is set to replace hip-hop star Eminem in an upcoming boxing movie.

The Berzerk hitmaker, who made his big screen debut in 2002 with rap drama 8 Mile, signed to star in Southpaw in 2010 but dropped out of the project last year (12) to concentrate on his music.

It has now emerged Gyllenhaal is in talks for the lead role of a welterweight boxer who gains success in the ring but has to fight for the respect of his daughter following a family tragedy.

The film has been on hold since its announcement in 2010.
