Hilary Duff: 'I'm not ashamed my marriage didn't last'
Singer/actress Hilary Duff refuses to accept her marriage to Mike Comrie was a failure because it ended in divorce.
The singer/actress split from the former ice hockey player in January, 2014, after four years of marriage, and they finalized their divorce in February (16).
But Hilary insists she was thrilled about the idea of becoming
Comrie's wife before they wed and now the relationship is over, she
still views it as a positive experience.
She tells The Love Bomb podcast's host Nico Tortorella, "I wasn't
shamed because I got a divorce. It was a big step to take... Lots
of people in my family are still married. Actually, I don't know if
anyone's divorced but me."
The 29-year-old insists she and her ex both worked hard on the
relationship when they were together and they're still friends and
good parents.
"It's something to be taken very seriously, and I was so happy to
be married," she continues. "I think that I was in a very
successful marriage for a long time. I never want to have any
negative (feelings)... We got together based on love and we
separated in a very loving way. I can't imagine going through that
process with anyone but him, and he continues to be my very good
friend.
"I think we handled it very consciously and with a lot of love. But
marriage is sacred and marriage is not for everyone. Marriage is
work. Marriage is really hard."
While she is content with the way her life is going and her new
relationship with trainer Jason Walsh, Hilary is not sure if she
will wed again.
"Everyone's like, 'Are you going to get married again?'", she says.
"I'm like, 'I don't know!' I don't feel the need to get married
again... I got to have the experience and it was awesome. So, I
guess if it mattered to someone else that much, I would consider
it."
