Evan Rachel Wood hurt by abuse during Marilyn Manson romance
Evan Rachel Wood's relationship with Marilyn Manson led to her being verbally attacked when she walked down the street.
The 29-year-old actress was just 19 when she started dating controversial rocker Manson, who was 36 at the time. The pair had met a year earlier when Manson, real name Brian Warner, was still married to burlesque artist Dita Von Teese, their relationship didn't begin until 2006.
Wood's romance with Manson led to her being labeled a home wrecker,
with many speculating that she was to blame for his marriage
ending.
"Most teenagers are searching for identity, and I was thrown into a
situation where I was supposed to have that already figured out,"
she told Rolling Stone magazine. "Then you're demonised for
figuring it out and getting messy. People would call me a w**re
when I walked down the street, and you can't not be hurt by
that."
Wood and Manson got engaged in January 2010, but ended their
romance later that year. Opening up about the former relationship
to the publication, openly bisexual Wood admits it was make-up
wearing Manson's androgyny that she was first attracted to.
"I met somebody that promised freedom and expression and no
judgments," she said. "And I was craving danger and excitement. I
looked at my mother one day and said, 'Mom, I'm gonna get on this
tour bus for eight months and see the world and have a crazy
journey and find myself, and if people aren't OK with that, I'm
sorry, but I can't live my life for other people.'"
After the end of her relationship with Manson, the Westworld
actress rekindled her romance with former boyfriend Jamie Bell. The
pair wed in October 2012 and had a son together in July 2013, but
announced their separation a year later after 19 months of
marriage.
Bell is now dating actress Kate Mara, while Wood is believed to be
single.
