Lena Dunham: 'I can survive staying in America'

Lena Dunham is not moving to Canada now that Donald Trump is the U.S. President-elect.

The Girls creator and star had been among those who stated they would leave the United States if Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the race to the White House - which he did earlier this month (Nov16).

Lena has now decided to backtrack on her remark, telling her followers on Instagram she is going to give Trump a shot at succeeding when he takes over from Barack Obama as president in January (17).

"I can survive staying in this country, MY country, to fight and live and use my embarrassment of blessings to do what’s right," Lena wrote. "It’s easy to joke about moving to Canada. It’s harder to see, and to love, the people who fill your mailbox with hate. It’s harder to see what needs to be done and do it. It’s harder to live, fully and painfully aware of the injustice surrounding us, to cherish and fear your country all at once. But I’m willing to try. Will you try with me?”

The 30-year-old actress also revealed it was a nasty letter that had prompted her to clarify her position as a proud resident of America.

“Today I received a letter (yes, on paper) that read ‘don’t let the door hit you on the a** when you cross the border into Canada.’ This is actually one of the more polite notes I’ve gotten recently, and I’ll survive it just fine,” Lena wrote.

Lena was just one of former Secretary of State Clinton's many celebrity supporters, who had campaigned for the Democrat candidate in the lead up to her face-off with Trump.

She previously revealed she came out in hives after learning of Trump's victory, writing in a candid essay for her Lenny Letter email subscribers that she had started the "perfect day" feeling like a bride on her wedding day, and had later joined her boyfriend, musician and singer Jack Antonoff, at the Javits Center in New York, where Clinton and her supporters had been expecting to celebrate her victory.

As the crowd watched the votes roll in on the news in the early hours and Trump's win started to become a reality, Lena reveals she broke down in tears and developed a rash.
